Adopt a Pet

Looking for a companion?

There are so many amazing animals in local shelters right now – who deserve a loving and permanent home.  While we strongly encourage adoption and respect the work of those who rescue animals, be aware that not all rescues are created equal.  We have “starred” the rescues we have personal experience with and recommend…but it is important to ask questions and do your research first before deciding on any rescue organization.

Here are some important steps to finding a good rescue:

1.  Ask others! Word of mouth is a great thing. If there are a lot of people with good experiences with a particular rescue, that’s a good sign. Feel free to inquire on our Facebook Fanpage. It’s a great forum.

2.  Read the excellent fostering series from MDB blogger, Terry Price Kimmel.  FOSTERING SERIES HERE  (even if you are not considering fostering, this is still helpful advice regarding selecting a rescue).  Terry has a lengthy history working in rescue. Feel free to contact her for further information at terry@montrealdogblog.com

3. Go with your gut! If you feel unsure about a particular rescue – move on. There are plenty of solid organizations out there ready to match you with the perfect companion!
