In Praise of Older Rescues

There are very few dogs on earth who can make petite Lola Pug look like Godzilla, but wee 4-pound Bradie is one of them.

We’ve been lucky enough to be able to kidnap Bradie this week for a few little daytime visits while her people travel.

Adopted from Loyal Rescue by her doting mum as a senior, special needs rescue, Bradie is now approaching her 13th year. She is not only one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met, she’s also one of the most quietly tenacious souls out there.

Bradie has just recently gone blind, and it’s been amazing to see how quickly she adapts to a brand new environment, and how bravely she explores this huge (to her), new dark world. …she found Lola’s toy box within minutes, much to my glee.

Now don’t get me wrong… Lola sulked. A lot….

But, people … PEOPLE … Lola is SHARING A BED WITH BRADIE!

Okay, so she’s not thrilled with the whole arrangement … and it IS Bradie’s bed … But LOOK!

And who is going to be frapping with excitement when we see Bradie over here again?

Well, me. Yes. But Lola will be, too. I guarantee it.

Bradie has made me a convert. Adopt the older dogs, folks. They’re awesome companions. And special needs? Not really a huge deal, if you have the patience and love to give to them. Senior rescues will most certainly give as much – and more – to you in return.

Even Lola Pug would agree.
