West Island Residents To Confront Employees Of Dog-torture Lab

Baie D’Urfe, QC, May 24/18–About 100 people, many of them Montreal West Island residents, are expected to confront employees leaving notorious International Toxicology Research (ITR) Labs on Friday, May 25, in the wake of undercover animal-abuse videos now going viral on Facebook.

The videos, portraying dogs being poisoned and tormented inside ITR to allegedly test the toxicity of pesticides, industrial cleaners, chemical cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals laden with devastating side effects, have been shared over 7,000 times on Facebook in the past 14 days, including the West Island Community page.

Animal activists and West Island residents, who’ve staged over 50 protests outside ITR since March 2017, are employing a new social media strategy to mobilize community outrage vs. the cruel lab. The full undercover footage of ITR’s animal abuse was released to general media in 2017, and now activists are sparking a new round of outrage by strategically posting graphic clips from the footage on social media, with an emphasis on the West Island communities surrounding ITR.

“We’re going to bring down animal-torturing ITR by making it the most hated institution in the West Island,” says campaign co-organizer Ashley Ollie.

“We’re making it a source of shame to admit you work at ITR. People will be leaving their jobs at ITR. We know for a fact it’s already happening.”

On May 25, protesters will shame ITR employees as they depart between 4:30-5pm, and protest overall from 3-6pm.
