First Sterilization Clinic for Nordic Dogs

André Roy and Cathy Samson established the organization Chiots Nordiques. Chiots Nordiques has recently been recognized as a non-profit organization (NPO). Their mission is to improve the living conditions of packs of stray dogs living in Northern Quebec and Nunavik, while ensuring the health of local people in relation to the canine overpopulation (spread of rabies, bites, etc.).  No veterinary service is available in these areas that are far from major centers and where many dogs are trying to survive extreme hunger, cold and continue to reproduce. There is so much that needs to be done but no resources are available to alleviate the situation for these dogs.

Chiots Nordiques wants to address and resolve this situation for the Nordic dogs. Fortunately, Andre and Cathy are not alone and they could accomplish their initiative with the valuable help of passionate volunteers that are ready to work as a team and take action. Andre and Cathy wish to inform of their upcoming victory: a first clinical vaccination and sterilization of stray dogs that will take place during the month of May in the indigenous communities of Mingan and Natashquan.

They have met with Geoffrey Kelley, Minister responsible for Native Affairs, and he supports this project and has agreed to participate in it. Chiots Nordiques count on the support from various pharmaceutical companies that make donations of medicines and clinical material for the clinic. Lots of dry food has been donated by pet food companies and cash donations are coming in from the general public.“We feel the support from people in this mess and more than ever we feel the wind in our sails is pushing to advance for the cause, which affects both public health and animal health. Over the last year we had over 260,000 visits to our website, we have 1500 members and 2000 subscribers Facebook follow us on Twitter!” explains Cathy. An organization, like Chiots Nordiques, needs a lot of resources in order to accomplish their compassionate goal.  At the moment they are at the final count of donations but they are still in need of over $2,000 in order to finance the first successful clinic. That is why at the moment Chiots Nordiques is kindly asking for people’s help to consider donating to help the cause of Nordic pups.

There is much to do and all of the territory of Northern Quebec and Nunavik is facing this problem. Cathy states that other clinics to help dogs will come in the future depending of the success of the first clinic. Therefore, please remember, small donations add up in a tremendous way. Even if you can’t help financially, you can lend a hand by sharing this posting and informing others about the great work that Chiots Nordiques is doing for Northern Dogs.
