MONTREAL – July 19, 2019 — Animal rights activists were present at the town meeting at the the Whiteside Taylor Centre on July 17th to protest a cruel animal testing facility in the town. The activists were scratched and bruised by angry residents of a Baie D’Urfe community meeting.
The activists breached the meeting on a proposed controversial daycare center, and where Mayor Maria Tutino was present. “We did so out of frustration that the Town of Baie D’Urfe, along with the provincial and federal governments, have done nothing to address the systemic cruelty inside ITR Labs, a cruel animal testing facility on Montreal’s West Island” explained activist Ashley Ollie and member of the ITR Animal Defense group.
The activists protested outside of ITR Labs for over 100 times since the airing of CTV’s W5 undercover footage exposing the beatings, confinement and poisoning of dogs, monkeys and pigs in ITR Labs: https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/w5/undercover-investigation-reveals-what-goes-on-inside-montreal-animal-research-lab-1.3320123
“Nothing has been done to punish the lab, to take corrective action, and, most importantly, to phase out cruel product testing on animals in Canada” said Ms. Ollie.
Ms. Ollie explained that the activists will continue escalating their tactics, generating political and social momentum to enact laws that protect animals. Their goal is to shut down ITR Labs and other animal torture chambers in Quebec.
