July 4 2015 – Robert Boisvert, a local Montreal animal rescuer, succeeded today in saving a mamma duck and her ducklings from death while they attempted to cross the highway. He received a call from a friend about a family of ducks stuck on the safety shoulder of a Highway in Montreal Quebec. Boisvert is known through Facebook as the administrator of the Canadian Chapter of 269Life; an animal rights group. He took his video camera and captured the 40-minute rescue.
Boisvert made a call to 911 to warn them about the situation. The police responded by sending 2 Sûreté du Québec (SQ) patrol cars to the scene. At about 11 minutes into the video, you can clearly hear the police asking Boisvert what type of help he needed. Rob’s objective was just to get the ducks to the opposite side of the road so the duck family could continue their way safely.
In the video, it can be seen that the officer parked just a few meters away from Boisvert to help stop traffic, and he also does the hand gestures to get the ducks moving towards safety. It is extremely rare for the Quebec police to be caught on video doing something heroic for animals. Through social media, people are used to seeing cases or notes in which authorities neglect to pay attention to emergency calls that involve animals. The names of the heroes are unknown. At the time of the rescue, Boisvert’s priority was to help save the ducks. He said that on Monday, when he calls for the police report, he will ask the names of the officers that assisted him on the rescue. Today, the SQ, made a difference for a family of ducks and in the process they restored the faith in the hearts of Quebec animal supporters.
Boisvert will continue rescuing animals and supporting Refuge RR. Refuge RR is sanctuary to more than 250 animals and it is considered the oldest Canadian Animal Sanctuary. They give a home to animals rescued from slaughter and abandoned companion animals.
