Montreal – Kebek Animal Rights Association (KARA) will be part of the 26th Annual National Anti-Fur Day. The Montreal animal advocacy group will occupy Phillips Square on February 14th, 2015 at 2pm and hold a day of action for victims of the fur trade. The event is in solidarity with the National Anti-Fur Day campaign.
The National Anti-Fur Day Page on Facebook states that they are Canada’s 1st and longest running national campaign against the fur trade. National Anti-Fur Day was started on Valentine’s Day, 1989 by Action Volunteers for Animals members Stephanie Brown, Merlin Andrews and Don Roebuck to unite activists in Canada who are committed to local anti-fur campaigns.
This campaign encourages activists who are part of a movement network to protest against the Canadian Fur Industry from the East to the West coast. KARA will be representing Montreal and joining the other groups of activists across the country: Halifax, Brockville, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Niagara Region, Oakville, Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Sudbury, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Langley, Vancouver & Victoria.
KARA has been very active since 2012 with the start of their silent campaign vigils in collaboration with Fur Bearer Defenders, another Canadian advocacy group. KARA has compromised itself to have a continuity in their advocacy against the fur trade, until the day Canada is free from the cruelty of trapping and exploiting of animals for feeding the ego of people that have no use in a civilized society to wear fur products.
It’s a proud tradition: the first and largest Canadian day of action for victims of the fur trade! Let us stand united against the Canadian Fur Trade and let’s remind the public not to buy any dead fur-based Valentine’s Day gifts! Let’s put the LOVE back into V- shopping and let’s indulge in vegan cakes and chocolates! – KARA
