NEBRASKA June 18, 13 – The company Natura Pet Products has voluntarily recalled specific lots of dry pet food due to it potentially being contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can be dangerous to the animals eating the product as well as for human guardians that handle the food and do not wash their hands thoroughly, or they do not clean the surfaces where the dry food touched.
The products that are being recalled are sold at veterinary clinics and specialty retailers in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
It is been advised by the animal food company that people monitor themselves and seek professional medical help if the following one or several symptoms are seen:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea,
- Abdominal cramping and fever
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada website, symptoms of a salmonellosis, start 6 to 72 hours after exposure to a contaminated product or animal.
If you should see the following symptoms in your pet please contact your veterinarian:
- Lethargic
- Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
- Fever
- Vomit
Natura informs their costumers that the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture did confirm the presence of Salmonella in additional dry pet food and cat pet treat. As a precaution, Natura says that they will also recall products that were made during the surrounding time frame of the infected products. The recall only deals with dry pet food and treats. It is said that no canned wet food or biscuits are being recalled.
